Eleven miles off Arbroath, the Bell Rock spends most of every tide under the North Sea.

Robert Stevenson's tower went up on it from 1807 to 1810, in dovetailed blocks of granite and sandstone.

It is the oldest sea-washed lighthouse still standing.
